Instructor Trainee Ratio: 1:5 (both male and female instructors are employed)

The Adventure Orientation Course has been exclusively designed for the urban teenagers in India. The course involves extensive trekking opportunities but it is not a trekking package per se. Here the focus is to provide an outdoor learning environment that inculcates outdoor leadership qualities, group behavior, conservation and sustainable lifestyle ethics. The technical training segment focuses on hands-on training in rope and rock craft along with life saving skills.

The entire course is conducted under the direct supervision of senior ex and certified guest instructors from the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Indian Army’s High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) at Gulmurg, ITBP’s Institute of Mountaineering and Skiing at Auli.

Objective of the Adventure Orientation Course

To provide an outdoor experiential learning opportunity.

To inculcate outdoor leadership qualities and expedition behavior through hands on training in rope & rock craft along with life saving skills.

To provide experiential and formal learning opportunities during treks in the high altitude Himalayan meadows.

Systematic exposure to high altitude Himalayan environment for acclimatization and increasing resistance to cold, hunger and fatigue.

Inculcate conservation and sustainable lifestyle ethics.

Course Locations

NDI Base Camp at Kuflon: 11 Km upstream from Uttarkashi in Assi Ganga Valley. Alt. 4900 Ft. Accessible by motorable road.

Multiple locations in Assi Ganga valley. Altitude. 4700-5000 ft.

Kohri: 8 Kms from NDI Base Camp at Kuflon. Altitude 7800 ft.

Chai Thatter: 16 Kms from NDI Base Camp at Kuflon and 6 Kms from Kohri. Accessible by trek. Altitude 9500 ft.

Siyari Top (aka Mukta Top) 20 Kms from NDI Base Camp at Kuflon and 4 Kms from Chai Thatter. Accessible by trek. Altitude 11800 ft.

What’s inclusive

Shared tented accommodation, food, essential technical gear, forest permits during height gain and instructors charges are inclusive in the fee.

How to reach

The Adventure Orientation Course will be conducted at Kuflon near Uttarkashi. The nearest railway station and airport is at Dehradun. From Dehradun buses and shared Sumo jeeps are available till Uttarkashi. Participants can make their own travel arrangements till Uttarkashi reporting center from where transport arrangements will be made for the NDI Campus in Assi Ganga Valley.
